CERTAPRO PAINTERS REVIEW

After listening to the sales rep and putting my requests in writing, I agreed to have this firm to paint the remainder of my home. Indicated they had to match the quality level of home exterior segments already painted. I said up front that my expectations were, I wanted the home painted not colored. One additional request was that all real wood had to be primed with oil based paint with appropriate wood preparation. All of these simple but basic requests were put into writing in a quote. By the way, I provided all of the paint to be used not saved.

Next began the customer service and communications. Each person, I came into contact did not really know what was to be done. They were telling me that they were coming to paint my home and this is what they needed. They showed up un-announced to spray wash with painting following over 2 weeks after completion with raining in between. Someone called from the office to let me know that painting was to shortly begin and wished to know what color was to be matched? Of course I asked had they read the written quote. I also requested to be present while they were doing the job. They never let me know when they were coming. I left all the paint they needed outside of the garage.

There were only 3 surfaces of home that needed to be painted. With minimum wood prep they began painting. All of the fascias where primed with oil base paint. After the paint cured a crew of 2 came back and began to paint. They used a 2-3 inch paint brush and a 4 inch mini roller. While one was on the ladder, I asked what training and experience he had in painting houses and he replied he had painted his grandmother’s home last year. With no real quality oversight and apparent little training he commenced to paint the home siding with a roller. He took off more paint than he put on.

The Result: Very un-satisfactory! First there were un-even applications of paint on all siding surfaces. They did not fully cover the fascia as the primer was showing through. After getting on a ladder to view the areas that were painted the sofits were not painted. How could I tell? Before painting began there were several wasps building sites and they had not been knocked down with the area painted. In addition against the written quote they did not completely handle all the prep as stated.

I complained to the company. Did not hear anything from them for over 2 weeks. I called as well as e mailed to state what was not done and how poorly. I was contacted by a company rep and another crew of 2 came out. I did not know when they were coming but fortunately I was home when they came. Even they commented about the poor job done. However, their painting methods were the same as the crew prior. They improved the areas that needed prep but missed prep around windows leaving paint cracking and chipping off the wood surfaces. After they had re-done the same surfaces, I went back up and redid the poor work. You could tell where the paint was put on the siding and stopped and then re-started again with VOID areas and No paint on the surface. Additionally the second crew also did not paint and the fascias. I realize that from the street no one will see it but that’s not the reason of painting a house. Its’ surface protection and protecting the home investment.

All in all this company really knows how to make a good sales pitch and follow up with un-evenly coloring a house. Real painting takes a company that knows and understands the importance of painting, doing it right the first time and all staff are informed prior to the beginning of the project. I am not a perfectionist but re-doing a job twice to try to get it right is too much. Don’t let the great pictures and slick marketing pictures move you to employ their services. Get references, go to see how they really paint, and see something that has been completed for 6 months. Then you can see if they are giving you a line of BS. It will never happen again. I could have saved myself a GREAT DEAL if I would have finished it myself.
